Abdominoplasty

The abdominoplasty body aesthetic surgery, performed by the plastic surgery clinic of Dr. Pedro Teran and Dr. Francesca Zavalloni in Burgos, is the operation consisting in the removal of excess abdominal skin and fat and the correction of muscle flaccidity.

This situation of excess skin and relaxation of the abdominal wall usually occurs in patients who have had weight gain and subsequent loss or in women who have had several pregnancies. Abdominoplasty achieves a flatter, firmer abdomen and a narrower waist.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, practicing an incision above the pubic hair that extends to the hips. The skin of the abdomen is freed and, if necessary, the abdominal muscles are reinforced with sutures. The excess skin is pulled down and removed.

After the operation the patient will wear a special girdle, reinforced with a bandage, according to each individual case. The scars around the navel and on the lower abdomen will improve over time. However, in some cases it is necessary to perform a scar revision under local anesthesia.

Abdominoplasty, whether full or mini-abdominoplasty, provides excellent results in patients whose abdominal muscles are weakened and have excess skin and fat. In most cases the results are definitive, as long as it is accompanied by a balanced diet and regular exercise. If you are realistic in your expectations and are able to tolerate the presence of a definite, but concealable, abdominal scar and a long recovery period, abdominoplasty may be right for you.
