Facial aesthetic nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, performed by the plastic surgery clinic of Dr. Pedro Terán and Dr. Francesca Zavalloni in Burgos, consists of a surgical operation to restore the nose as a result of deviations, malformations, or for aesthetic reasons.

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery, is a surgical procedure performed by a plastic surgeon to improve the appearance and symmetry of the nose. This procedure is most often performed to correct a nose whose features are disproportionate to the other features of the face for aesthetic reasons or for structural abnormalities that interfere with the ability to breathe as a result of a birth defect or physical trauma.

Rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure performed to correct deformities of the nose. It consists, fundamentally, in modifying the bony and cartilaginous nasal structures to achieve a new shape that improves facial harmony. When, in addition, the deviation of the nasal septum is corrected to improve the respiratory function, it is called rhinoseptoplasty.

The operation, which is usually performed under general anesthesia or, in selected cases, with local anesthesia and sedation, begins by approaching the nose through internal incisions, so that there is no visible external scar. The surgeon cuts and shapes the nasal bones and cartilage to achieve the desired shape. Sometimes incisions are also made at the base of the nostrils. To help shape or support the nasal pyramid is often used as grafts different tissues of the patient himself (cartilage, bone) or, more rarely, synthetic materials.

After the operation, which usually lasts about an hour, a nasal packing is placed which is usually removed the next day, except if a septoplasty has been performed, in which case it is left in place for two or three days. Likewise, a plaster splint is applied to the nose, which is kept for a week.

Some postoperative edema and the presence of ecchymosis (bruising) is common, which usually subsides after a week. Most patients will be able to return to normal life in about 8-10 days. No judgment can be made about the outcome of a rhinoplasty until several months, even a year, have passed. This is the time required for the tissues to stabilize and scars to perform their maturation process. The intention of rhinoplasty is that the "new" nose does not attract attention, and is fully integrated into the overall context of the face producing a harmonious and pleasing set, ie, that is not detected that has been operated.

Occasionally, either due to serious initial anatomical alterations, tissue healing disorders, postoperative trauma, etc., the result is not perfect (asymmetries, irregularities in the nasal contour, etc.), so it may be necessary a surgical touch-up, which in such a case will be performed after six months.
