Lipofilling

Lipofilling, lipostructure, lipotransfer or the transplant of own fat performed by the plastic surgery clinic of Dr Pedro Terán and Dr Francesca Zavalloni in Burgos, are techniques that are usually used to fill deep grooves in different parts of the body.

Lipofilling (lipo means fat and filling means filling) is used in those places where there is little movement of the tissues since, due to movement, the fat can break down prematurely.

This is an outpatient treatment.

Lipofilling: The body's own fat has a soft structure, so it always takes the desired shape

In lipofilling (lipo-transfer) the body's own fat is used to fill wrinkles, folds and grooves anywhere on the body. Fat transfer is also used to perform contour corrections, such as correcting buttocks, sunken cheekbones, to smooth scars and irregularities, and to beautify the upper part of the hands.

Lipofilling can also be of great help in the fight against aging. Wrinkles and sagging skin are a natural consequence of aging. As we age, the amount of subcutaneous fatty tissue decreases, so the skin becomes thinner. A transplant of your own fat can be of great help to fight against this aging phenomenon.

Lipostructure: With lipostructure we provide more volume to certain areas of the body and face. Typically, fat is removed from the hips (cartilage) or abdomen. We can extract up to 1500 cc - 1.5 liters of pure fat to transplant it to the desired location.

Anesthesia: The lipostructure is performed under local anesthesia. The treatment lasts approximately one to two hours, depending on the area to be treated. Both the donor area and the area to be grafted are treated with an anesthetic (in liquid form) that also prevents bleeding.

Fat extraction: The fat is suctioned with a small tube specially designed for this purpose, connected to a vacuum cleaner. The doctor makes one or more small incisions in the skin of the donor area. This technique ensures that the least possible damage is done to the fat cells. This is an important factor in the final result. The most common donor areas are the abdomen and hips (or the inner part of the buttocks). Large volumes are extracted using liposculpture-liposuction. The extracted fat is used to fill other areas.

Rinsing and purification: The doctor rinses the extracted fat and then filters it. Next, the purified, sterile fat is introduced into small syringes.

Transplant: The doctor makes one or more small incisions in the skin of the area to be filled. The fat is then injected in very small quantities, distributed in several dozen fine channels created in the skin. In this way, the transplanted fat cells maintain maximum contact with surrounding tissues such as skin, muscles and cartilage. The surrounding tissues supply the necessary oxygen and nutrients to the transplanted cells, ensuring their optimal implantation.

Immediate result: The result is visible immediately. Generally, 25% of the extracted fat is transplanted, depending on the capacity of the recipient area. This means that the doctor removes and grafts approximately a quarter more than is required for the desired end result. This is necessary, since it has been shown that a quarter of the transplanted cells do not implant, resulting in a decrease in volume in the final result.

Post-treatment: The grafted area becomes swollen and usually bruises, which are treated with cold, for example, with an ice pack or frozen pack. The swelling and bruising will disappear in a few days.

Final result: The final result will be visible after 3 months. Once the transplanted cells are completely implanted, they will react like any other fat cell in your body. This means they will increase in size if you gain weight and will shrink if you lose weight again.

In general, this treatment presents few complications. The fat comes from the patient's body and, therefore, is 100% bio-compatible and it is not necessary to perform a hypersensitivity analysis.
